LISTENING COMPREHENSION AND WRITING ASSIGNMENT 2A - 30th March

Good morning dear 2A students!

How are you today? Ready for some composition day? Here is a little video by Tom from Eat, Sleep, Learn, giving us some advice about how to turn this negative situation into something positive.
This is what we are going to do:
1) FIRST, watch the video and answer QUESTION #1 and 4 more questions of your choice. This is a listening comprehension/vocabulary  exercise to be done  TODAY Monday 30th.
The video lasts 11:30 minutes, make sure you can follow the video without being interrupted.
To do that read the questions first and be ready to take notes. You can stop the video or re-play it as often as you need. Do not use subtitles, if you can avoid them.

2) SECOND. Write a composition of about 120 words on the following topic. 


"HOW TO STUDY AT HOME DURING THE QUARANTINE PERIOD". Use the previous video as inspiration and try to give some advice and /or explain your own situation. Remember to use topic-related vocabulary, a variety of different grammar structures and appropriate linkers. Give your text a structure. Compositions will be sent to arantxaealo@gmail.com. The deadline for the composition is  Monday April 6th.

    Study in short amounts of time, set your background noise or music, put your phone away, get up and move regularly, check your posture, use washing machine as a timer, take notes and learn actively, teach someone what you are learning, do an online study session with a partner, have an specific goal and check online resources if you need it.

    2. What is the speaker's recommendation to avoid the noise? Summarize your answer.
    His recommendation to drown out noise is to play instrumental music with no lyrics so we can work at the beat of the music without getting distracted. Also, if we don’t want music but we don’t want silence either, he recommends a website that provides ambient sounds like, for example, a coffee shop.

    3. According to research, what effects does the phone has on you it is at sight?
    It reduces activity by 40%.

    4. What is his recommendation about exercise?
    He recommends setting up a timer on your phone every 45 minutes so you move and do a little bit of exercise to help reset your brain and refocus.

    5. What is recommendation #5?
    He recommends readjusting your posture every 30 minutes. He recommends to think that there’s an orange in the middle of your shoulder blades and you have to try to squeeze it.

    It is a person as a friend, a housemate or anybody who you can study with.

    He recommends watching Fleabag (a great show that i truly recommend too) and Friends

    -To study in short periods of time to keep you focused at best.
    -Avoid noise as possible and if's not, listen to soothing music or ambient sounds.
    -To put your phone away to make sure you can't be distracted
    -Move your body between study sessions.
    -Change your posture frequently.
    -Use things around as a timer (washing machine, microwave...)
    -Take notes effectively (active studying)
    -Teach someone to prove yourself how much you know about what you are studying.
    -Organize online with your friends(Discuss stuff that you learnt).
    -Set up specific goals for study sessions, like being able to read 20 pages of a book in english
    -Exploit resources around you (books, series, films...)

    time limits.
