LISTENING COMPREHENSION-1A STUDENTS


Hello everyone!

How are you today? This is the second-to-last activity on the blog. I selected a video explaining some differences Between American and British English. I know you already know some of them " elevator/ lift", "sideway/pavement", "highway/ motorway"... These here have more to do with cooking and ingredients. Watch the video  and find out.



TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT.
Answer as many questions as you can. Watch the video with subtitles if you need. Pause and play it as you wish, and above all, learn and enjoy.  Post a comment on the blog by today. 

Q1. Why does the young woman " Grace" speak American English? Where is she from? Explain.
Q2. How many different food do they mention? Please explain the difference between 5 of them, write the american and the English term?
Q3. What explanation does she give about the term "eggplant"?
Q4. What words differ only in the pronunciation? Give two examples.

Q9. Could you explain the difference among " Jam" / "Jelly" and " Jello"? In which situations would you eat each of them? Which one is American and which one is English?
Q10. What is the meaning of " mince" ? Why is it different in American and in British English?

1A JUNIORS general tenses Review- TEST PREPARATION

Explendid morning, isn't it? How are you feeling in the last part of this year's race? You are doing great! I am so proud of you ! USE OF SO, SUCH

Hello all!
How are you feeling today? I hope you are still with some energy to finish this week. Remember Thursday, Friday and Monday are no-school days, so let's try a little effort before your long weekend.

You are going to learn and practice the difference between so and such , together with too and enough.
Pay attention to the following links to study the difference. Follow the steps.

STEP 2. LISTEN TO THIS SONG
Listen to the song by Coldplay called "The Scientist":pay attention to the lyrics and write down on your notebook any line of the song containing the structure " such+a/an+ noun" or "so adj".

STEP 3. COMMENT ON THE BLOG.
Write 4 different sentences (created  by you) using the structures learned in this lesson. Make them true for you . Remember they have to be original, check spelling before writing.

1A PRONUNCIATION PRACTICE

Hi all!
Today we are going to practice a little bit of pronunciation. Let's do it with a song., shall we? How does it sound?

STEP 1. LISTENING
Listen to "Fireworks" by Katy Perry from this website 👉CLICK HERE.  There is a fill-in-the-gap exercise below the video so , scroll down to do the exercise. Make sure you understand the song. Check unknown words in a dictionary .

STEP 2 LISTENING AND PRONUNCIATION
Use the program Lyrics training to practice the song . You do not have to register or anything ( if the program asks you, just click on "quizás en otro momento". The song "Fireworks" has already been selected in the level "ADVANCED". Fill in the blanks with the missing words at the same time you listen to the lyrics. You can stop the song as many times as you need. 
STEP 3. SINGING, SINGING , SINGING
Just sing the song at home, follow the lyrics, play it again, sing it again, pay attention to pronunciacion, make sure you pronounce "you" correctly , "work" correctly. Sing it one more time. Learn some lines, the chorus, the beginning, by heart ( memorize it)

LISTENING AND VOCABULARY 1ºA

Hi Everyone!

This is the last task of the week. You have been working really hard and I have an easy task for you to do. We are going to watch a video using 11 British and American informal expressions that are worth to learn.

WATCH THE VIDEO 👇as many times as you like and write down the 11 expressions on  a list📝 or a table chart. Note its use ( affectionate/ humorous/ rude...), if it is British☔ or American🗽 or both , an equivalent in Spanish ( in case you can find one) and finally an example sentence.
This is  a listening exercise, the main objective is to understand the video and at the same time to learn new expressions. Do not send the chart to the blog or by email, just use it for the following exercise.
Do the quiz at the end of the video before posting an answer. Use your chart / list to help you.


TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT: ANSWER THE FOLLOWING COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VIDEO. CHOOSE 5 OF THEM AND POST A COMMENT.
1. Which of the expressions mentioned are "cockney"? What does cockney mean? Where is it use?
2. Where can you use " No way José"? Can you change it to any other name?
3. In which  particular context does he use Achilles Heel? Can you give me a sentence that is true for you.
4. What is the origin  of the expression " Elvis has left the building"? 
5. Can you find an equivalent in your language to " Jack of all trades master of none"?
6. Can you think in a translation for " Joe Bloggs"? Can you put it in a sentence that express something that you really think?
7. What does the expression " Gordon Bennet" show?

1A READING PRACTICE AND WRITING

Hi , my dearest 1A students!


How is the week coming along? Congratulations on your hard work! I have the feeling that you are getting better and better. How about some READING today for start?

PART 1. ( today's assignment)
I chose a text  for you regarding money CLICK HERE TO ACCESS THE READING.


Read the text in English without a dictionary, and complete the PREPARATION, TRUE FALSE, GROUPING AND MATCHING EXERCISES. Post a comment explaining the new vocab you learned today.

PART 2    EXTRA CREDIT   DOES MONEY BUY HAPPINESS?

This is an optional exercise for extra credit. Watch the clip on Monique Colman (about 2.30 minutes) for generally understanding. Choose one of the questions below and post an answer on the blog. You have the whole week to watch the video and answer the question . Watch it as may times as you want, just out of curiosity. DEADLINE Sunday 2nd.
Your answers need to be ORIGINAL. Do not copy your partner's answer, otherwise it won't be taken into account.

1A LISTENING COMPREHENSION AND VOCABULARY 20th. April

Here is a scene from the  famous award-winning sitcom "Friends".

Watch the scene using subtitles first, then pay attention to the vocabulary explanation ( the scene is repeated , line by line, explaining different vocabulary and pronunciation aspects). You can stop the video and play the scene as many times as you need.
 My advice is that you take notes of the words/expressions in blue on your notebook , so that you find answering the questions easier .
Answer the questions below .Once you finish , watch the end of the video were you'll try to understand the same scene WITHOUT subtitles.
TIME EXPECTED : the video lasts 23 minutes, and the exercise performance probably about 30 minutes. Try to avoid being interrupted while watching the video. I hope you enjoy the activity!

EXTRA CREDIT : 
Did you know that "mouth" could also be a verb? Can you think of an equivalent in Spanish.
The whole scene is set in Thanksgiving, would you find out when is this holiday celebrated in the US?
