LISTENING AND VOCABULARY 1ºA

Hi Everyone!

This is the last task of the week. You have been working really hard and I have an easy task for you to do. We are going to watch a video using 11 British and American informal expressions that are worth to learn.

WATCH THE VIDEO 👇as many times as you like and write down the 11 expressions on  a list📝 or a table chart. Note its use ( affectionate/ humorous/ rude...), if it is British☔ or American🗽 or both , an equivalent in Spanish ( in case you can find one) and finally an example sentence.
This is  a listening exercise, the main objective is to understand the video and at the same time to learn new expressions. Do not send the chart to the blog or by email, just use it for the following exercise.
Do the quiz at the end of the video before posting an answer. Use your chart / list to help you.

    I choose this questions, it’s my answers.

    2.No way Jose! Is a phrase to say ‘absolutely not’! And I can change for other name, for example no way Charlie.

    3. We are use “ Achilles heel “ it’s your vulnerable point it’s your point of weakness, we gon love course use this to talk about people of all football teams about anything really all.

    4.Elvis has left the building comes from when Elvis used to do concerts when Elvis presley used to do concerts and to encourage the fans to leave because they just wanted more, they would announce sorry everyone.

    5.Jack of all trades master of none, I think that we can refer in Spanish to a person who is fond of something, no is expert but yes is a fond person. It is similar a jack of all trades master of none.

    7.Gordon Bennett it's a very British phrase to show annoyance or surprise in a situation.

    Rosy Lea. Cockney is a dialect of the English language traditionally spoken by working-class Londoners. Cockney is also often used to refer from anyone from London (in particulary, from East End). Rosy Lea is used to refer of a cup of tea and it's used in England.

    2. Where can you use " No way José"? Can you change it to any other name?
    You can use 'No way José' to say 'absolutely no!' and it's an American phrase. Yes, you can change it to another name.

    4. What is the origin of the expression " Elvis has left the building"?
    It cames from when Elvis Presley used to do concerts, for encourage the fans to leave because they wanted more, they said: 'sorry everyone, Elvis has left the building'.

    5. Can you find an equivalent in your language to " Jack of all trades master of none"?
    'El que mucho abarca y poco aprieta'.
    7. What does the expression " Gordon Bennet" show?
    It's used to express surprise or anger.

    No, I haven't heard any of these expressions before, but I think that it's interesting to know them. My favourite is 'No way José!'

    We used for express the vulnerable point of you or of the other people etc. For example: My Achilles heels is the cook. I don't know nothing of this

    Yes, is very interesting this video because I thought that the expression that said in the video only were comun in my country, for instance El talón de Aquiles but I realized that it is famous in all the world. I have a question about the expression Joe Bloggs because I think that It doesn´t exist in spanish, I was investigating and I didn´t found a translate into my language so I would know an equivalent

      Joe Bloggs is like when we say "fulano o mengano", meaning "cualquier persona". It is very similar to Tom, Dick and Harry.

    No, i didn`t. I think that it is interesting and curious, because is cool hear this kind of expression. I find funny to study expression like those because are funnier to learn.

    I have used this expression to talk about the "WEAKNESSES". An example is: My Achilles heels is my shyness, I am very shy.

    The origin of the expression cames by singer Elvis Presley when his fans want to leave because they wanted more.

    Two equivalents are: "MAESTRO LIENDRES, QUE DE TODO SABE Y NADA ENTIENDE" or "APRENDIZ DE TODO Y MAESTRO DE NADA".
