News on "Arantxa's Site" front!!

Hello everyone!! 👋Here is some updating of new posts and tasks on the blog.

FOR my brilliant JUNIOR STUDENTS 
  • There is a new test on the recently created Quiz and Test Page . Please make sure you check this section and have your homework done by the date proposed. Remember you can practice before taking the test on the GRAMMAR SECTION.
  • If you haven't done it yet. Post a comment on the Harry Potter activity, there are questions specifically created for you.( 1 to 4).
  • Check the section INTERESTING APPS AND WEBS, see the new January proposal and post a comment.

Translating Harry Potter...the challenge!



Hello Everyone!

Congratulations to those fans of "The boy who lived", here is an interesting Talk about the challenge of translating J. K Rowling's master piece . Whether you are a fan or just know about the saga, I'm sure  this material full of curiosities and interesting data will absolutely draw your attention.

4. List 3 chraracters whose names might be difficult to translate because of alliteration, word play or connotation*?

6. Why were some of the proper names of the characters changed for some of the translated versions?
Please mention one example.
7. What different tricks did translators use to overcome cultural barriers regarding food translation?

Ho, Ho, Ho! here comes the ... CHRISTMAS SPECIAL


So, 3 weeks for Christmas means it's time for a Christmas Special🎅🎄. I have picked this Sainsbury's ( Supermarket chain) Commercial picturing the  British Christmas holiday through this festive song " Every bit of it". Enjoy the ad , sing along if you feel like ( there is a karaoke version at the end), and then take some time to answer FOUR of the following questions. Please ,post the answers.




1. What is the connection between the tv classics on Christmas and the word cheese?
2. There are two typical british appetizers ( considered pastry) mentioned in the clip,
one is round and the other one is implicit in "you bring the pigs , and I bring the blankets... What are they?
3. Who do they refet to with " both the in-laws"?
4.  The kid on a sheep costume mentions a particular speech on TV. Who gives it? In his opinion ,do they pay attention?

ENGLISH JOURNAL PROJECT 2nd and 1st BACHILLERATO (re-posted)

And again , here is a new opportunity to improve your term grades. If you like keeping diaries and telling stories , check out this homework assignment and see if it interest you, if it is so you will be able to increase your mark up to "1 point". It is a good system  not only to improve vocabulary , but also to practice grammar , not to mention writing skills.

English Journal project description:

  • At least 24 entries ( of different  lengths) on a variety of topics. 
  • Write using varied vocabulary and an appropriate grammar
  • write on past stories, an event you attended, something interesting that has happened to you to express a feeling ( joy, anger...), to talk about a future plan, a song you like...
  • Write in English ( use dictionnaries below to help you)
