1B Listening and Vocabulary Practice

Here is a scene from the  famous award-winning sitcom "Friends".

Watch the scene using subtitles first, then pay attention to the vocabulary explanation ( the scene is repeated , line by line, explaining different vocabulary and pronunciation aspects). You can stop the video and play the scene as many times as you need.
My advice is that you take notes of the words/expressions in blue on your notebook , so that you find answering the questions easier .
Answer the questions below .Once you finish , watch the end of the video were you'll try to understand the same scene WITHOUT subtitles.
TIME EXPECTED : the video lasts 23 minutes, and the exercise performance probably about 30 minutes. Try to avoid being interrupted while watching the video. I hope you enjoy the activity!

1. Answer the following questions briefly as a comment on the blog.
a) Why doesn't Chandler want to shake hands with Will ( Brad Pitt)?
b) Why does will consider that his cake is "no good"?
c) Did  Ross and Will enjoyed the party they are talking about?
d) What sentence does Ross use to find out what Will has been doing all this time?
e) Did Rachel recognize Will when they are introduced? How can you tell? What expression does she use ?

2.FIND A WORD/EXPRESSION MEANING
2.1 To be really interested in something
2.2 To be really amazed by something
2.3 To be in a good moment in someone's life
2.4 To have the intention of doing something
2.5 To look at somebody for a long period of time
3. FIND IN THE VIDEO A SYNONYM FOR
3.1  Sweet Potato
3.2 Incredible
3.3 Very attractive
3.4 kissed / made out
3.5 Uninteresting or pathetic

EXTRA CREDIT :
Did you know that "mouth" could also be a verb? Can you think of an equivalent in Spanish.
The whole scene is set in Thanksgiving, would you find out when is this holiday celebrated in the US?
Did you find the exercise useful? Could you understand the scene without subtitles better?
Comments have to be published by tonight 23.00 ( It means you can post comments along the day)

    1. I forgot the extra credit:

      - I don't know, but maybe "gesticular" or "musitar".
      - Thanksgiving is celebrated each year every fourth thursday of November.
      - I thinks this type of excercises are great, because we learn a lot of very useful vocabulary and expressions that we don't learn with the book. Also, I loved this activity because I'm a big fan of Frinds.
