2A VOCABULARY : VERBS + PREPOSITIONS AND PHRASAL VERBS

Hi Everyone!

Congratulations on doing so great in your 5th week of lockdown!! You are doing a terrific work!Keep up!
 Let's prepare for our vocabulary test on Wednesday 22nd. Remember? . We are going to expand and reinforce our knowledge of verbs + prepositions and Phrasal verbs. In order to boost functional learning  we are selecting two important semantic fields ( everyday routines and jobs). You already practised a selection of Phrasal verbs  last week,  which are also included in this lesson.
So far, the phrasal verbs included in the previous exercise were:

EXERCISE:
There are over 50 different phrasal verbs and verbs plus prepositions  in the video. They are highlighted in red. Check the meaning of the verbs below. Study the context they are used in the video.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO POST?
Check the meaning on an english-english dictionary and , as a practice, write a meaningful sentence with ten of them ( of your choice). Post your ten sentences as a comment on the blog BY TODAY.
REMEMBER THIS IS A TEST PREPARATION. Take this vocab into account for Wednesday's test.

    -He works out at the local gym every month.
    -All those weeks of study will pay off when you buy the house.
    -Maria had made an effort to dress up for the wedding.
    -I can squeeze the wedding for monday.
    -The shirt blue makes her easier to pick out in the concert.
    -Alcohol really messed her up.
    -It's time for us to cut down on food a bit.
    -We hope her success will reflect well on the school.
    -Thanks for pointing out where the square was.

      Check the adjective+noun order in sentence #6. I don't quite understand the sentence. Could you rephrase it?

  3. Hi Jose! Nice work! Watch out the third person singular with subjects such as Javier, Marta, My sister...
    Also, check the preposition before "weekend". Could you aldo check the context of "fill in", in the semantic field of Jobs and Work , it has a different meaning.

  4. 1. My best friend invited me over his house.
    2. I sit down in bench from the park.
    3. I don´t want getting on with him, is a bad person.
    4. I don´t care not fit in. I have so much thing that to do.
    5. My residence is Huelva. I was born and grew up here.
    6. I prefer hang out with mylselft that go out with my friends.
    7. I usually to wake up, 7 o´clock from the morning.
    8. I alway pick out a pencil for drawing.
    9. I can´t live, if i don't put on my comfortable clothes.
    10. I took up to draw, with 15 year. Now, i draw so good.

    #4 don't care + ing
    #6 prefer + ing
    #7 I usually wake up
    #9, I don't quite understand the sentence
    #10 I took up drawing at the age of....
    Could you correct the mistakes?

  6. -Although I consider myself a whole chameleon socially speaking, it's really hard for me to fit in with anyone.
    -A lot of times I've thought about cutting down sugar but it was never a success.
    -During this quaranteen I've tried to work out several times but the huge amount of work does not allow me to.
    -It's really important to warm up your cords before singing for a contest or just to take care of your throat.
    -Every time an idea that I consider is good crosses my mind I try to write it down so that maybe later I can get something out of it.
    -I always like to stick to a plan since I can't stand being unaware of a situation I'm in.
    -It's really hard for me to pick out a color as my favourite since I like them all.
    -I usually get weighed down easily by very sweet foods.
    -I love trying out new things since I consider myself a very curious person.

    2- My parents moved in when I was born.
    3- I started planning ahead for their return.
    4- I wake up early.
    5- The pointing up salute to the plane.
    6- When I grew up all change.
    7- My neighbors cut down all the trees.
    8- I've caught up on homework.
    9- Had to give up on you.
    10- Had to pick out between a telephone or a tablet.

  9. -If you take the bus, you can catch up with them easily -Fill in the text with the words below. -Lets try out this new gadget and if it work we can sell it -We were going to move in a new house, but i think we're going to wait all this end.
    -These days I sleep in everyday.
    -I have to pick out a design for my walls. -I used to get around a lot, but theses days i cant go anywhere.
    -Could you please stick to the plan?!
    -Studying daily will pay off in your grades, believe me.

  10. -I never get around to save enough money during the year to afford a travel to Uganda

    -All my work to land my business project will finally pay off, that's what I would say if at least I'd worked a single day

    Fill in: I forgot to fill in the name space on my test.
    Stick to: Stick to the status quo.
    Move in: How long did you wait to move in to your new place?
    Pick out: The teacher never picked her out so she was confused.
    Sleep in: She used to wake up when the alarm went off but now she sleeps in.
    Get around: My mom got around to go to the supermarket.
    Plan on: I’m planning on dying my hair soon.
    Pay off: My brother spent all night studying so I hope his effort pays off.
    Try out: Maybe you should try out some activities like piano lessons.
